More families seek help from consultation center

DOHA: The number of citizens and expatriates seeking the services of the Family Consultation Center has gone up manifold over the past four years, show data released by the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA).

In 2011, a total of 26,023 people used the services of the Center against 3,695 beneficiaries in 2007, with a rapid increase during the one year period from 2010 to 2011, with 14,030 beneficiaries in 2010.

The centre, set up in 2003, has a team of specialists who provide consultancy and support to families to help them deal with family related issues and problems and provide protection for children and women who fall victims to violence.

The data were issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women observed on November 25 every year.

The Parental Care Section at the centre provides services such as nursing, visits or accommodation.  

The centre provides several psychological, educational, social, legal and Shariah-related services and consultations. 

There were 2095 visitors in 2011 of whom 55.5 percent were Qatari women and 44.6 per cent non-Qatari women.
