DOHA: Defending champions Al Sadd moved up to second spot in the points standings after beating Al Arabi 2-0 in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday.
Elsewhere yesterday, league leaders Eljaish maintained top spot after edging Al Sailiyah
1-0.
In other results yesterday, two-time champions Lekhwiya suffered their third defeat of the campaign after losing 1-0 at home to Al Ahli.
In the fourth match of the day, Al Rayyan and Qatar SC shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw.
Al Sadd started the match brightly and took the lead in only the third minute when Nadir Belhaji gave the hosts the advantage through a wonderful long range strike.
The full-back capitalised on a counter-attack after just moments earlier, the visitors nearly went ahead in the match,
The Al Sadd defence quickly cleared the danger and following some quick passes, the Algerian picked up the ball to race ahead on the left hand side and unleash an unstoppable shot that went in off the post.
Former Real Madrid legend and Al Sadd captain Raul had a goal ruled out for offside in the 50th minute, in what was a good decision by the referee.
Al Arabi’s Sayyed Mohamed Adnan missed a glorious chance three minutes from time, when he hit his shot high above the
net.
His miss proved to be costly as Saleh Al Yazidi doubled Al Sadd’s lead in the 90th minute.
Coached by Hussein Amute, Al Sadd could have been 3-0 up, but Ali Asad missed a penalty in the dying moments of the match.
