Doha: Thunderstorms accompanied with the strong wind were reported from many parts of Qatar including Doha.
Many parts of the country are enveloped in dark clouds and it feels like nightfall has happened in the afternoon itself. Some readers from places like Al Kharaitiyat and Al Gharafa sent us photos, which shows that the street lights have already come on as the sky is fully covered with dark clouds.
“Latest radar image shows thundery showers over Doha and thundery cells approaching Dukhan and Um Bab. Chance of thunderstorms expected to continue in most areas of the country during evening and night time,” Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) said.

“The continued monitoring shows a series of thunderstorms on the east coast of the country including Doha and its suburbs with strong winds exceeding 30 knots now,” QMD said.
“According to the latest marine observations, the wind speed is 38 knots and the wave is 10 feet, please avoid going to the sea,” the weather department added.
They also urged people to not believe fake weather updates and to keep track of all developments through official accounts. There were some fake alerts spreading on some social media platforms.
“With regards to the circulated picture containing an offensive translation of the forecasts, we'd like to clarify that it's not true and we'd like to stress again the importance of getting information from official sources only,” QMD said.
Meanwhile, Ashghal tweeted that they are “closely following the weather changes and distributing tankers and equipment to clear accumulated water in areas that lack drainage networks.”
“The peak of rainy weather is expected to be during the period between noon and tomorrow morning as conditions become favourable for thunderstorms of variable intensity in Doha and most areas of Qatar,” the weather department had tweeted earlier.
Baladiya has tweeted that their teams have been deployed in all vital areas to fight water logging caused due to rains.
“Its raining in large parts of the western regions including Doha city and rain teams are sent to all vital locations, streets, roads and neighborhoods to urgently deal with the water logging and drain them out immediately to facilitate traffic,” Baladiya tweeted
