DOHA: The initiative to launch an institute to train women in childcare would help grooming children says psychologist.
Qualified people from the proposed Nanny Training Academy would be able to take care of Qatari children with a significant difference from the usual house maids, reported an Arabic daily yesterday.
Dr Moza Al Malki, a Qatari psychologist said: “There is a significant difference between a house maid and a nanny. A trained and qualified nanny will have a good knowledge about the cultural environment and psychology of children and it will reduce violence against them. She will know how to deal with children. Job of the house maid will be limited for cooking and cleaning,” she said.
However, she insisted for the need for proper theoretical and practical long term training. The Qatar Nanny Training Academy is an initiative of H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. The academy which is scheduled to open in April next year will seek to contribute to human resources development in Qatar by providing educational and training services in the field of childcare that are in keeping with the country’s Qatari and Islamic identity.
Parents and CMC members have welcomed the initiative taken to establish an institution to train nannies. Um Mariam a Qatari mother said: “It’s good to have specialised nurses and it will be a support for the mother and family. Leaving children with a trained nanny will give more confidence about the safety of children.”
Hamad Salah Al Haoul, a CMC member appreciating the initiative said: “Families are spending lots of money on untrained maids but having specialised and trained nannies will support grooming of the child. This could even reduce the number of runaway workers, because the maids will be in charge of domestic work and the nanny will take care of children.”
Amal Al Mannai, a member of the founding committee for the academy, has not been able to provide details about the method of recruitment, their sponsorship and salary. The Peninsula
