DOHA: Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Lekhwiya will host German giants Bayern Munich in a friendly game here on January 5, a news report said yesterday.
Bayern Munich, who lost the Champions League final to Chelsea in May this year, will head to Doha for a short winter camp after New Year’s eve.
A Bayern Munich post yesterday said “Philipp Lahm and the team players were officially released for the holiday season on December 19 and have 14 days to relax and spend time with their families”.
Bayern players report back on January 2 for the flight to the annual winter training camp to be held in Doha for the third year in a row. During the stay in Doha, coach Jupp Heynckes and his players will aim to lay the foundations of a successful second half of the campaign and the pursuit of three trophies.
On January 8, Bayern Munich will play Schalke 04 in Doha.
In another football-related development, a news report on Alkass said Lekhwiya’s friendly match against German side Schalke 04 on January 6 had been cancelled. However, the QSL champions will play Paris Saint-Germain, the French giants now owned by Qatar, on January 2 as scheduled, the report added.
