DOHA: The Indian Embassy held the monthly ‘Open House’ yesterday to discuss urgent consular and labour issues of Indians.
The embassy registered the deaths of 20 Indians in December, taking the total to 232 so far this year.
The Labour and Community Welfare Section received 3,484 complaints until Friday.
Arora and other officials met people at the Open House, discussed their problems and assured them of follow-up.
Officials also visited the central prison and the deportation centre this week to enquire about the welfare of Indian detainees.
Sixty-one Indians are in the prison and 232 at the centre.
The mission issued 11 emergency certificates in December, and three in September on request by Qatari authorities for travel documents for inmates at the centre. It also issued 16 air tickets to Indians to return home in December.
The Indian Community Benevolent Forum, which functions under the aegis of the embassy, continues to assist Indian workers through measures such as air tickets, medical treatment and financial assistance.
It will organise a medical camp, in association with Indian Doctors Club and other partners, in Zikreet on January 31 for low-income  workers living in Dukhan and Zikreet Industrial Area.
