Doha: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani chaired the weekly Cabinet session at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
The Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the Cabinet approved a proposal by the Ministry of Environment, amending some provisions of the draft decision of the Environment Minister on regulating some fishing activities to preserve fish stocks.
The session agreed to host the first meeting of the GCC Education Ministers and the preparatory meeting of Education Undersecretaries in Doha on January 7 and 8.
It endorsed a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) on training, development, consultancy, civil service affairs and administrative development between Qatar and Oman.
The Cabinet also approved a draft MoU on capacity-building of officials between the Ministry of Administrative Development and Oman’s Institute of Public Administration. A draft convention on improving tax compliance and the application of the law on tax compliance for foreign accounts between Qatar and the US was also endorsed.
The Cabinet reviewed a draft law amending some provisions of law No. 40 of 2004 concerning the guardianship of minor funds; a letter from the Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Water Resources on the third quarterly report for 2014 on the panel’s work. The report said the panel discussed issues and took decisions, including the cost of the sale and use of treated water, social and economic impacts of prohibiting the use of groundwater for forage production, rationalising the use of desalinated water and a study on water treatment expansion plans besides requiring authorities to use rehabilitated drinking water wells.
The Cabinet reviewed a letter from the Minister of Justice on the outcome of 30th Session of the Arab Ministers of Justice Council and the 55th session of the executive bureau in Jeddah in April 2014; and a letter from the Minister of Administrative Development on the outcome of the 13th meeting of GCC Ministers and heads of civil service departments in Kuwait in September 2014.
