DOHA: The Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samarasis arriving on a two-day visit to Doha from Tuesday, the Greek embassy said.
The premier’s visit was planned for November 2012 but was postponed due to a summit of the European Union. Samaras will be accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Panos Panagiotopoulos, the Minister of Development, Kostas Hatzidakis, the Deputy Ministers of Development, Notis Mitarachi, the Minister for Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Assimakis Papageorgiou, and the Secretary General for International Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Panagiotis G Mihalos. A group of 65 top executives from 45 major Greek companies will also accompany them.
Samaras will hold talks with the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani. The Greek ministers will meet their Qatari counterparts as well as top officials from Qatar Holding, Qatari Diar and other state entities.
Greece is implementing a vast privatisation programme that is expected to attract investment of about $20bn in the next three years. Equity participation in state firms such as the State Lottery and the State Natural Gas Co, infrastructure projects (regional ports and airports) as well as dozens of real estate deals are part of the privatisation programmes.
A joint Business Council will be established between the Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Greek Enterprises.
