DOHA: Over 530 brands of the finest jewellery and timepieces from 24 countries are being showcased at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) 2013 which witnessed a dazzling opening yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, along with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Chairman Engineer Issa Al Mohannadi, cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the 10th edition of the show which ranks the third largest jewellery expo globally.
A giant 10th anniversary cake was cut during the launch of the week-long exhibition organised by QTA and sponsored by Qatar National Bank (QNB).
This year’s edition of the exhibition saw a number of new participants, including some of the world’s best known names such as Christie’s from London and Matis Jewellery, who aim to establish a base in the industry in Qatar.
“Christie’s is very proud to participate in this exhibition for the first time with around a hundred beautiful pieces from world-renowned brands such as Cartier, Boucheron, Graff and Harry Winston,” Julien-Vincent Brunie, International Director, Private Sales, told The Peninsula.
Many spectacular pieces are being exclusively revealed at the show to the public.
Over the past decade the DJWE has become a record-beating event and this year’s edition has an impressive increase of 15 percent of international brands on display.
The event puts Doha firmly at the centre of innovation in jewellery and watches design, and underlines QTA’s determination to showcase world-class gems and watches to visitors and residents.
Among the significant Qatari exhibitors are Al Fardan Jewellery Company, Ghadah Jewellery/Al Manara Trading, Ali Bin Ali group, Al Majed Jewellery, Blue Saloon, Al Muftah Jewellery, Amiri Gems, (51) Fifty One East, Al Jaber watches, Pari Gallery, Marzooq Al Shamlan & Sons, Al Majed Pearls/Dar Al Majid Jewellery, Royal Jewellery (Al Malakia), Bulgari Jewellery, Al Makki Jewellery & Watches, Al Mawali Jewellery, Matis Jewellery, Versailles Jewellery, Wazni Jewellery, Doha Marketing Services Co. (Domasco) and Safana Jewellery. International brands include Mouawad Jewellery, Al Zain Trading Co, Graff/Qatar Marketing Co and Christie’s Jewellery.
The show is open from today until Thursday from noon to 10pm, on Friday from 4pm to 10pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10pm.
