DOHA: Several government departments have not responded to about 40 percent of CMC recommendations this season, civic data shows.
The fourth council has so far made 404 recommendations to 37 government departments and discussed 191 topics, Saud bin Abdullah Al Henzab, Chairman, told the bimonthly session.
He said CMC had received only 248 responses (about 61.4 percent) and 156 recommendations (38.6 percent) still awaited response.
Al Henzab said data was important for CMC and its members to assess their achievements and challenges they faced as the civic body’s fourth term nears end.
Only 12 sessions remain before a new CMC takes over after election this May.
“Some departments have never responded to all recommendations we have given this season,” he said, warning them to take recommendations seriously and that they will be exposed to the public if they failed to respond during the remaining term of the current CMC.
Councillors also condemned the closure of service roads on main roads and said this had led to more congestion instead of solving it.
They asked the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Traffic Department to help ease traffic jams without closing service roads.
A motion on the closure of service roads was tabled by Mohammed bin Shaheen Al Dosari who represents South Khalifa City.
He said the closure of service roads had been inconveniencing businesses and shops that were served by these roads as well as residential areas in the vicinity.
Al Dosari said the closure of service roads had not reduced jams which was the main objective on most roads.
