The visit of the Emir
H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the United States is very important as it comes at a time when the region is witnessing fast changes in several areas.
During the visit, the Emir met US President Barack Obama, other decision-makers in the Congress, and high-profile political and economic figures.
Key issues that need consultation and discussion were to be taken up during the Emir’s meetings with top politicians, economists and educationists.
Relations between the two countries extend to a number of sectors and have proved fruitful.
A high-level business delegation led by Sheikh Mohamad bin Hamad Al Thani visited the US recently. Deals concluded during the visit indicate that Qatar’s investments in US are expected to reach $35bn in the next five years.
US investments in Qatar through more than 120 companies are also increasing, especially after Qatar won the right to host the Fifa World Cup in 2022.
Qatar and the US enjoy strong relations based on mutual respect, like other friendly countries. They understand the viewpoints of each other and work together to solve regional and international issues related to security and stability.
The US administration knows very well the credibility of Qatar and its position in the region and the international community.
Qatar always supports the security and stability of countries and addresses the issues of people. It is impartial and does not pay heed to baseless allegations. It maintains equal distance from all parties. Qatar has gained high credibility, because of which it has often been a venue for talks and mediation efforts, with parties having disputes and differences seeking its help. Qatar provides transparent mediation and is best advisor and defendant of nations.
The best example of Qatari mediation is the release of an American soldier in May last year after five years as a Taliban captive in Afghanistan. President Obama had appreciated Qatar’s role in a telephonic conversation with the Emir.
