QNCC to enhance production capacity in first half of 2018

DOHA: Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) will increase its production capacity by 5500 tdp during the first half of 2018. The industrial test of Plant No.5 was successfully completed in 2017. The plant will start operating during the first half of this year, Salem bin Butti Al Naimi, Chairman and Managing Director, QNCC has said.

Addressing the annual general assembly meeting of the company Al Naimit said the company’s production in both categories of cement OPC & SRC reached 3.5 million tons during year 2017 compared to 3.7 million tons during the previous year. The production of washed sand increased to 9.1 million tons during the year 2017 compared to 8.8 million tons during the previous year. Calcium carbonate production during the year 2017 increased to 40,000 tons compared to 37,400 tons during previous year.

Sales of all types of cement reached 3.4 million tons during the year 2017 against 3.7 million tons during the previous year. The sales of washed sand increased to 9.5 million tons during the year 2017 compared to 8.1 million tons during the previous year. Sales of calcium carbonate increased to 43,000 tons during the year 2017 against 36,000 tons during the previous year. The total value of sales revenue was recorded at QR 1.03bn for the year 2017 compared to QR 1.14bn for the previous year.

During the year 2017, QNCC supported the massive construction boom in Qatar by meeting the market demand for all types of cement and washed sand successfully from the company’s own production maintaining the high quality standards, and at a competitive price for all products. The year also witnessed maintenance of revenue generated from the sales of cement, washed sand and calcium carbonate was mainly due to the utmost utilization of the company’s capacities meeting the local market demand. The company also controlled the production cost, and managed to substitute employment of some regular labour and technical staff with hired manpower from local contractors, and accordingly reduce the production cost considerably.

Al Naimit said the company is well-equipped to meet the market demand of various products with high quality standard and competitive price in 2018.

Elaborating on the company’s 2018 plans, the Chairman said QNCC will diversify the production by adding new types of cement to meet the demand of local market and utilize the opportunity of export. The company will utilise the optimum production capacity of washed sand and calcium carbonate to meet the expected local market demand to achieve the targeted goals of the company. It will also enhance measures for protection of environment and ensure the safety of all natural reserves by continuous co-operation with authorities.

QNCC will encourage Qatari nationals to join the company and following improvement of qualification in various aspects and improve the health service and welfare of the employees at the work site at Umm Bab and Mekaines.
