FRANKFURT: Management and unions at Deutsche Bahn have reached a deal awarding the group's 130,000 employees a total pay rise of 6.0 percent over the next 19 months, the German rail operator said Tuesday.
Employees will see their wages increased by 3.0 percent from May 1, but then receive a further increase of 3.0 percent from April 1, 2014, Deutsche Bahn said in a statement.
On top of this, employees will also receive a one-off payment of 500 euros ($643).
The deal comes a week after unions staged a five-hour walkout which led to the cancellation of 150 trains and delays on long-distance services.
The EVG union, which had been calling for a 6.5-percent pay increase, described the deal as "acceptable".
Deutsche Bahn had been offering a pay hike of 2.4 percent this year followed by 2.0 percent next year. (AFP)
