DOHA: Qatar Science Leadership Programme (QSLP) will attract more Qatari youth who are interested in building careers in the field of scientific research and innovation management.

The programme will recruit more graduates as it is set to expand its programmes dedicated to personal development in scholarly creativity, science and research.

QSLP offers the full spectrum of opportunities to pursue careers in a wide range of sciences pertinent to Qatar’s national research agenda.

Each Track has its own criteria for enrolment but overall candidates must have strong academic standing to be eligible for the programme.

“QSLP will continue to expand, both in numbers and breadth, as more young people join in social science areas as well as in areas such as computing, biomedicine and environmental science,” said Dr Wyatt Hume, Director of Education, Training and Development, Research Division at Qatar Foundation.

“These new breed of scientists will play a pivotal role in fronting scientific growth, development and innovation in the country in the near future and beyond,” he added.

The QSLP Undergraduate Track aims to encourage ambitious young male and female undergraduates to pursue higher education in creative and scientific research fields, while the Research Management Track allows trainees to gain hands-on experience of critical areas relating to different aspects of research management.

Its Research Scientist Track is for those who want to pursue Masters or PhD degrees to develop Qatar’s creative arts, economic and scientific footprint.

The Research Postdoctoral Track is a highly technical path where individuals gain additional experience in an area of creativity or scientific investigation that is of strategic importance to the needs of Qatar and the wider Mena region, prior to becoming a fully independent research scholar. Over 50 young Qataris are enrolled in the programme and pursuing careers in the vast and highly specialised scientific fields including stem cell research, biomedicine, environmental sustainability and biostatistics.

Many of them are already closely linked with QF research centres where they are contributing to the growth and development in Qatar’s core research focus areas which are health and biomedicine, energy and environment, computing and information technology, behavioural and social sciences, and humanities.
