Iraqi forces retake ancient city of Hatra from IS

Baghdad: Iraqi pro-government forces have recaptured the ancient city of Hatra city from the Islamic State jihadist group, they said Wednesday. 

"Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) forces liberated the ancient city of Hatra... after fierce clashes with the enemy," said the Shiite-dominated paramilitary group.

Hatra, which lies in the desert southwest of the city of Mosul, includes a world heritage site.
