LAHORE: Load shedding-stricken people in Punjab have called for an early formation of the new federal and provincial government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, in a hope it will act upon their promises to end menace of power outages.
The caretaker government has completely failed to control the load shedding issue, which is swelling with the passage of time. Power shortfall has reached around 8,000 MW causing the worst ever energy crisis in the extremely hot weather, said sources in the Ministry for Water and Power.
Initiatives for workers abroad
ISLAMABAD: The PML-N leadership is considering policy initiatives to gain maximum economic benefit from remittances sent by Pakistanis living abroad. The party is also working on a plan to offer people a 100-day relief package relating to electricity and economic crises. A party leader in Lahore said that PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif was recently briefed by former senator Enver Baig on the concerns of expatriates.
$15bn Saudi aid a long shot
ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Oil Facility ranging from $3bn to $5bn will only be possible if Islamabad opts to go to the IMF Buta package of $15bn, which is simply impossible, official sources said. “If $15bn actually is given, there will be no need to go the IMF,” the sources said. Saudi Arabia can provide a breathing space on the condition that Islamabad enters into scrutiny of the IMF to ensure financial discipline. Agencies
