ISLAMABAD: The newly elected government of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to appoint active members of the lawyers’ movement as its law officers.
Sources said that after the appointment of Munir A Malik as the attorney general of Pakistan, the federal government, while appointing other junior law officers, is giving priority to lawyers who played an active role in the movement.
Sources said that the prime minister had already sent a summary to the president regarding the appointment of Sanaullah Zahid as the deputy attorney general (DAG), who was a leading member of the lawyers’ movement. The government was also considering Sajid Ilyas Bhatti as another DAG.
The sources said that former DAG Shah Khawar would likely be appointed as an additional DAG.
They said the government had also decided to remove law officers appointed by the PPP-led government. In the first round, it would sack DAGs Shafi Muhammad Chandio and Aleem Abasi very soon.
