Qatar keen to enhance capacities of disabled

Geneva: Qatar has affirmed it keenness to enhance capacities of people with disabilities through the adoption of programmes in cooperation with public and private sectors, to enable them to benefit from the information and communication technology.
This came in a speech by Second Secretary at Qatari Permanent Mission to the UN, Nour Al Sada, at  the Annual Thematic Discussion on ‘technical cooperation and capacity-building in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities through legal and institutional frameworks, including public-private partnerships”, currently underway in Geneva.
 Al Sada talked about programmes adopted by Qatar to build capacities of persons with disabilities through information and communication technology.
She highlighted the Building National Capacities programme being implemented by the Elderly People Department at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Qatar Assistive Technology Centre.
She said the programme includes training courses and workshops for people with disabilities, their families and staff.
She said 90 percent of the national database for people with disabilities has been completed in coordination with public and private bodies in addition to the formation of a working group of stakeholders to develop an enabling work environment for the disabled as part of the social development sector strategy of Qatar National Vision 2030.
She highlighted cooperation between Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of People with Special Needs and the centre to provide latest training tools for the disabled and technology and technology assistance. QNA
