Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, through its Department of Islamic Research and Studies, has published the 216th volume in its Kitab Al-Ummah series under the title “Social Solidarity: Visible Impacts and Future Prospects.”
Authored by Dr Abdul Salam Riyah, the book is the third volume in the series “Social Solidarity: The Response of Human Nature to Divine Revelation,” which examines social solidarity as a central form of worship with wide-ranging social dimensions.
The publication explores how strengthening social solidarity can contribute to facilitating social life, protecting communities from social and security-related risks, and ultimately promoting social security.
The book examines the role of social solidarity in achieving community security across a range of areas, including protecting public rights, preserving social identity and moral values, protecting life, reducing crime, safeguarding the mind and promoting intellectual security, combating extremism, building and strengthening families, protecting wealth, fighting corruption, enhancing food security, supporting community development, making effective use of resources and talents, reducing unemployment and addressing poverty.
It also highlights the contributions of official and civil society institutions, including endowments, charitable organisations, research centres, Islamic jurisprudential academies, conferences and international agreements, in promoting social solidarity and strengthening its impact on community security.
Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, described the publication as an important study of social solidarity in terms of its forms, resources, beneficiaries, roles and fields, which extend across different aspects of life.
He said the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs plays an important role and makes valuable contributions to reviving the concept of social solidarity, particularly in relation to achieving community security.
Dr Al Thani highlighted the experience of Qatar’s Waqf Funds, developed by the General Administration of Endowments, which cover a range of areas, including charity and piety, service to the Quran and Sunnah, mosque services, scientific and cultural development, family and childhood care, healthcare and other fields.
He said the book seeks to achieve two key objectives through the revival of social solidarity: ensuring that people in need enjoy human dignity and a decent life, while enabling those who contribute their wealth, knowledge and guidance to see the positive outcomes of their giving.
