DOHA: The State Cabinet yesterday approved a decision to set up special committees to deal with rent-related disputes.
The Cabinet nod for the dispute settlement committees could help resolve the problems that may arise from an increase in building rents, due to high demand in the market.
Five committees will be set up, each to be headed by a judge. The committees will come into existence with a formal approval from the Cabinet.
The members of the committee will be nominated through a Ministerial decision, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
The Cabinet approved a draft law amending some provisions of the law No (4) of 2008 concerning the rents of real estate properties.
The amendment aims at faster settlement of disputes between tenants and landlords. During the acute housing crisis a few years ago, the government had made it mandatory for tenancy contracts to be registered with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.
The civic ministry had also set up committees in each municipality that were tasked to register rent contracts and resolve disputes arising between tenants and landlords.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani presided over the weekly regular meeting of the Cabinet at the Emiri Diwan.
The Cabinet also approved the draft law annulling the law of the authorities and general institutions issued as per law No (26) of 2004 . The annulment was to cope with the structural developments that had occurred at the authorities and the general institutions as far their modus operandi and administration are concerned.
The Cabinet was briefed on the recommendations of the Advisory Council on the security and safety measures in commercial complexes and other facilities, and on supporting the Civil Defence with more skills, experiences and capabilities. The Peninsula
