DOHA: The Nephrology Section at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) plans to increase the number of kidney dialysis units and stations in the country, says an expert.

Dr Hassan Al Malki, Head of the section, said kidney diseases are becoming more prevalent in Qatar.

“With the steady population growth in Qatar, HMC is working to increase the number of kidney dialysis units and stations and enhance the peritoneal dialysis and home kidney dialysis programme,” Dr Al Malki said. He was speaking at an event held to receive a donation from the Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company Ltd (Tasweeq) to HMC’s renal dialysis services.

With more than 450 patients on dialysis in Qatar, HMC is the only provider of this specialised service in the country.

Tasweeq’s donation is part of their social responsibility programme which this year focuses on supporting the national healthcare sector. Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director of HMC, received the donation from Abdulla Abdul Malek, Executive Director-Administration, at Tasweeq, on behalf of Tasweeq CEO Saad bin Abdulla Al Kuwari.

Dr Al Kuwari expressed HMC’s gratitude to Tasweeq for the donation which is a result of strong partnerships the hospital has built with the public and private sector.

Mohamad Mubarak Al Noimi, Chief of Communication and Chief of Staff at the Managing Director’s Office at HMC, and Abdulla Al Marri, Director of Public Relations at Tasweeq, were present during the handover of the donation.
