DOHA: Members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) are set to pick their secretary-general on Tuesday through a vote.
This is the first time since its inception in early 1999 that the CMC will be filling up this key administrative post through a secret ballot.
The job of the secretary-general is administrative as its role is to prepare minutes of CMC meetings and follow up on the resolutions passed by the House.
After the CMC advertised the post following the exit of the last secretary-general a few months ago, some 37 people applied.
The CMC carried out a screening based on interviews and short-listed seven applicants who will be part of the balloting process. It is interesting to note that one of them is a woman. The CMC Chairman, Saud Al Hanzab, urged CMC members to vote for the best candidate based on his or her qualifications and experience and not get carried away by any other considerations.
