ISLAMABAD: Pakistani police carried out targeted operation in Frontier Colony and Site Area in the wee hours of yesterday, detaining at last 44 suspects and recovering arms and drugs from their possession.
Police said that 34 suspects were arrested in the operation in Frontier Colony area of Orangi town, adding that the suspects are being interrogated.
In site area, police arrested 10 accused including two absconders. Weapons and drugs were also recovered from their possession, police said.
Five militants killed in Kabul
KABUL: Five Taliban militants were killed, three others were injured and three others also detained in joint operations launched by Afghan security forces and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) during the past twenty-four hours in different regions of the country.
Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry said in a statement today that Afghan forces carried out with ISAF several joint operations in the regions of Badakhshan, Jawzjan, Balkh, Maidan Wardak and Logar killing five Taliban militants, wounding three and arresting three others.
The statement added that large quantities of heavy and light weapons were seized during the operations.
Pakistan oil, gas income up
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government’s earnings from the oil and gas sector have surged, mostly through non-tax revenue, by more than 32 percent to Rs76.53bn in the first three months of the current year compared with Rs57.94bn in the same period last year.
This is in addition to an estimated similar amount collected through general sales tax on the sale of natural gas and petroleum products, making the petroleum sector the country’s single largest revenue earner.
A senior official said the government’s windfall increase on the GST on sale of gas and petroleum products was two-fold.
