DOHA: Some 14 public parks in Qatar will be equipped with free wireless internet services by 2015, and an average of two parks are being connected with a free internet network per year, an official report said yesterday.
At least 6,500 people are using free internet services at public parks per month and they access the network more than 300,000 times a year, said a report issued by the General Secretariat of the State Cabinet.
The free Wi-Fi service at public parks was launched by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) in 2007, Al Sharq reported yesterday.
Currently, free internet is available at several parks like Al Rumailah, Sheraton, Dahl Hammam, Al Wakra, Corniche and Al Khor.
The next plan is to provide free internet at parks in Dukhan and Semaisma. The project will continue for three years.
