DOHA: Easy tracking of stalls via GPS navigation charts and service porters are some of the new features of the Doha Trade Fair (DTF) 2013 which opens on January 1 at the Doha Exhibition Center, organisers said yesterday.

With more than 400 companies from 29 countries taking part, the ten-day fair is set to be the biggest shopping event of the year.

Jaber Al Mansoori, Chief Executive Officer of Maraya Public Relations, who is organising the event along with the Qatar Tourism Authority, said GPS navigation, which is being provided for the first time at the fair, would enable the visitor to locate fast the stall he intends to visit considering the huge number of stalls at the fair.

DTF 2013 is being organised based on product profile not on country pavilion basis. The sections include household items, gadgets and electronics, perfume and cosmetics, apparels and food, in addition to a wide selection of bags, shoes, jewelry, textiles, herbal products, carpets and gift items among others.

Also to be made available for the first time at the fair are service porters who would come to the shopper’s location at a press of a button, said Al Mansoori at a press conference held yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Center.

Organisers have also prepared a good programme of events for the entire family at the fair including eight groups to entertain visitors, comprising magicians, acrobats and clowns. They will be performing daily at a 3,000sqm tent especially set up as Fun Zone which would also contain restaurants, gift shops and handicraft.

DTF’s last edition in July saw over 200,000 visitors to more than 500 stands from over 30 countries.

Ammar Al Saadi, local exhibitions coordinator at the QTA and Maher Eid, director of exhibition, Maraya also attended the press conference.

DTF 2013 would open from January 1 to 10, 10am to 10pm at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
