Doha: Under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, Doha will host the second high level forum on Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM) from February 4 to 6. The event will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre(QNCC).
The Secretariat of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), in collaboration with the Government of Qatar, will be convening the forum.
It will bring together government representatives from UN member states as well as interested stakeholders from non-governmental organisations, academia and private sector to discuss critical issues on global geospatial information management.
The forum also seeks to promote greater usage of growing sources of geospatial information and best practices.
The activities will begin with an ‘Exchange Forum’ with the geospatial industry. The opening ceremony and a Ministerial Segment will be held on the first day, followed by five technical sessions in three days. The forum will address matters such as:
The importance of and drivers for building a sustainable national geospatial information system; future trends in geospatial information, including growing the information base and promoting its greater use; developing an effective global geodetic reference framework and leveraging location-based services; geospatial information and sustainable development (Rio+20)and challenges in developing core global reference database.
