Erekat gives lecture on negotiations

Doha: A course on negotiation skills organised by the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded here yesterday. Forty-five employees of the ministry and some state institutions attended the training.

Dr Saeb Erekat, the head of the Negotiations Affairs Department in the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) gave lectures during the course.

The course included topics focussing on the skills needed by the negotiator, negotiating requirements, work pressure, crisis management, how to limit the damage, reading, listening and speaking skills, preparations for negotiations, the composition of delegations and the distribution of roles.

Dr Erekat also focused on the elements of negotiations, which include interest, communication,  options, alternatives, and relationships and commitment.

He presented a series of default negotiating exercises in various areas of negotiations, involving all participants in the training course.

Ambassador Dr Hassan bin Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, Director of the Diplomatic Institute, and Dr Saeb Erekat distributed certificates to the participants.
