DOHA: One now needs a permit to import or export ivory items and mummified crocodiles or tigers, the Ministry of Environment said yesterday.
The ministry tweeted, saying Qatar signed the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in May 2011, and implemented it in August the same year. CITES was signed by 90 countries in 1973 and enforced in 1975.
“The import or export of any items made of ivory or mummified tigers or crocodiles will not be allowed without a permit,” the ministry said.
