Amman: An official military source in the Jordanian army announced that 27 smugglers were killed and others were injured while trying to cross the border from Syria to Jordan.
The Jordanian news agency, Petra, quoted the source as saying that the Jordanian army forces carried out simultaneous operations in the eastern military region on several fronts within the area of responsibility, through which they thwarted attempts to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotics, coming from Syrian territory into Jordanian territory.
The source stated that the clashes resulted in the killing of 27 people, the injury of a number of smugglers, and their flight to the Syrian depth, where large quantities of narcotic substances were found.. He indicated that searches are still in progress to ensure that the area is free of the presence of people and narcotics.
