Doha: Continuing its support for horse racing in Qatar, Total E&P Qatar signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (REC) to support His Highness The Emir’s Sword Race and Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Weekend in Paris.
This year’s Emir’s Sword Race will take place tomorrow at the REC racetrack in Al Rayyan. The best Pure Arabian horses will be racing against each other for the top honours in the event with a prize money of QR2m.
REC Chairman, Sheikh Mohamed bin Faleh Al Thani thanked Total E&P Qatar for its continued support. “Total E&P Qatar and REC have a long standing relationship. We thank Total E&P Qatar for its interest in supporting horse racing, which is indeed a sport fostered by our forefathers. We hope events like these can elevate the status of horse racing not only in the region, but also in the global arena”, he said.
For his part, Stephane Michel, Managing Director of Total E&P Qatar and Group Representative, said, “Total is very proud to support Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club in its various development initiatives by being the title sponsor of the highly prestigious the Emir Sword Race.
“This partnership comes with Total’s recognition of sports as an integral part of its corporate social responsibility and we are proud of being partners of such distinguished sporting events. Horse racing is not only a skill and a sport, but is a tradition which brings all of us closer to our roots,” he said.
