I believe Qatari students are more tired than their peers because educational institutions have crushed their dreams and aspirations.
These institutions have exhausted and tired them though they were established to help them and prepare them to build their country. Does the country need its children?
Our painful education begins at the primary level. Students start carrying weights on their backs until college, with the blessing of the Education Ministry.
With due respect, our children have become nothing more than lab rats, as the status of our education system varies constantly. I swear by Allah’s name that it breaks them before qualifying them.
The most difficult stage for students is the one between high school and college. This can be called the “diaspora” stage.
Despite media hype on the future of education and its importance, most of our students do not find solutions to their problems or a place where they can go in their country. That is why they go everywhere in the world at their parents’ expense.
Meanwhile, non-Qataris enjoy benefits of free education!
Students at the Community College of Qatar are a case in point. The college is serious, offers quality education, has fine staff and faculty and is a good solution for students with low grades.
But Qatar University does not accept its students. It does not recognise the number of education hours in the college. It only takes half of the total hours. This means students spend a whole year in vain. Why?
Both the university and the college belong to the government and concordance should exist between them.
Worse, foreign universities accept all hours taken as they are acknowledged in Europe and the US because this is an internationally recognised system. The question is: why all these hindrances?
Students have the right to have information about their education so that they can take appropriate decisions without exhaustion.
Qatar University has the right to have reservations. But it should meet the college administration to discuss the situation and find a common ground for the sake of students and their future.
The other solution for the university is to qualify students without tiring them. What is the role of the Ministry of Higher Education in resolving the issue?
To all concerned, I would say, “We Qataris our human capital which is limited and educated individuals can be counted so why are we creating complications and problems for our children and their future? Are we in millions? Why is it happening?
