DOHA: About 2,000 people attended a march at the Corniche yesterday organised by the Ministry of Environment to mark Qatar Environment Day.
The Environment Day activities had the theme, “My environment and I am responsible.”
Several senior officials from the ministry and members of the diplomatic corps joined hundreds of Qataris and expatriates as well as school students in the march.
The events were held in collaboration with the Supreme Education Council and Qatar Scouts Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sheikh Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, assistant undersecretary at the ministry, said, “This day reflects Qatar’s grave concern related to the environment, which has now become an international issue. This occasion is intended to raise environmental awareness and promote an environmental culture in the country. We are happy to see the huge response from citizens and expatriates.”
He said a campaign had been going on throughout the year with various activities such as cleaning of beaches and coastal areas, waste recycling and protection and restoration of green areas in the desert.
