Dubai: An investigation into the death of Bollywood superstar Sridevi Kapoor, who drowned in her bathtub in a Dubai hotel, has been closed, police said Tuesday.
"The Dubai public prosecutor's officer has decided to release the body of Indian actress Sridevi to her family today (Tuesday) after the investigation into the incident was concluded and the case closed," read a tweet by the Dubai police.
Dubai has handed over the body of the legendary Indian actress to authorities for it to be returned home, said an Indian embassy official on Tuesday.
The official said the body had been "received, embalmed and taken on its way to India", the official, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters.
Police said on Monday that a post mortem had shown that Sridevi, who died on Saturday, had drowned at her Dubai hotel room bathtub during a visit to the Gulf Arab emirate to attend a family wedding.
Media reports had earlier said the 54-year-old had died of cardiac arrest.
