Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) is to hold its fifth Disaster Management Camp (DMC-5) from April 1 to 10 at Al Khor Marine Scout Camp.
It will be organised in coordination with government and nongovernmental organisations, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN, and  the GCC General Secretariat.
The Ministry of Interior, Permanent Committee for Emergency, Qatar Armed Forces, Internal Security Force – Lekhwiya,  Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme, Alrayyan TV, Ooredoo, Qatar Steel, Qatar Charity, Qatar Scouts & Guide Association, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Tourism Authority, Doha Golf Club and Community Police will also contribute.
The success of the fourth camp in April 2013 resonated among Qatari institutions.
“Qatar attaches much importance to dealing with natural disasters and international cooperation to face them and reduce their impact,” said Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Geneva, in her keynote speech before the fourth session of Global Forum for Disaster Reduction.
As capacity building is a priority under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the only way to create a culture of preparedness and promote disaster response tools in the world, QRC initiated preparations for DMC-5 last October.
This year, trainees from over 20 Red Crescent societies in GCC and Mena countries will attend along with trainers and experts.
