Doha: Six-time champions Al Rayyan will be looking to continue their winning run when they meet Al Wakra in Round 2 of the prestigious Emir Cup, today at the Al Arabi Stadium.
Al Rayyan, spurred with their return to the Qatar Stars League (QSL) following the Qatargas League triumph last week, outwitted Markhiya 5-0 in their opening Emir Cup clash on Friday.
Brazilian striker Rodrigo Tabata who scored a brace in the one-sided victory will be a player to watch in today’s encounter.
Al Rayyan last won the Emir Cup in 2013.
On the other hand, Al Wakra who nearly escaped demotion in the second division after finishing on 12th position in the QSL must be looking for consolation.
Meanwhile, Mesaimeer will hope to advance into Round 3 as they meet Al Khor in other match of the day at Qatar Sports Club.
Mesaimeer prevailed over Muaither 2-1 in the first after a thrilling battle.
In other match of the day, Al Shahaniya and Al Khairaitiyat will lock horns at the Al Arabi Stadium.
Al Khairaitiyat who finished ninth in the QSL must be eyeing an easy sailing against Al Shahaniya who were demoted after being confined to 13th position in the QSL.
Al Shamal and Al Sailiya will play in the other Round 2 match at the Qatar Sports Club.
Al Shamal was the other team which got demoted after getting a wooden spoon in the lucrative league. As many as 18 first and second division teams are participating in the Emir Cup.
