DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has asked all private clinics and hospitals to instal surveillance cameras in their premises.

This is in line with the Emiri decree No. 9 of 2011 regarding the use of cameras and surveillance equipment, according to a circular issued by the Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Department at SCH.

“It has been made mandatory for all private facilities to install surveillance cameras in important locations. The cameras in clinics and hospitals are to be installed only in public areas like reception and waiting rooms, without affecting the privacy of visitors. We have got approval from the ministry in this regard,” said the official.

The cameras should be operational round-the-clock. The facilities have been given three months to comply with the directive. If they fail, their licences may not be renewed, warned SCH.

All healthcare facilities have been asked to refer to the Security Systems Department at the Ministry of Interior for technical specifications and approval of locations for installing cameras. The Peninsula
