Sharif declines bullet-proof cars

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz  Sharif yesterday declined to take new bullet-proof cars for his motorcade, ordered by the previous government. A source said that during the PPP regime, cars were ordered and funds were released. The order was placed and there were chances of loss if it is withdrawn. So Sharif directed that the vehicles be placed at the disposal of Cabinet Division and used for foreign leaders during state visits. A letter in this regard has been sent to the cabinet secretary. 

Five cops, three soldiers killed

Kabul: Five policemen, including an officer, and three troops were killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan, officials said yesterday. Col Ali Ahmad, in charge of the 7th police district, and his bodyguards came under attack during an overnight patrol in Injil district in western Herat province. One policeman was wounded and the attackers also suffered casualties, officials said. Elsewhere in the western zone, three Afghan soldiers were killed and four injured during an explosion in the Pusht Rud district of Farah province after their tank struck a roadside bomb. The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility and said they had destroyed two army tanks.

China media team arrives  

Islamabad: A Chinese media delegation of 16 members arrived in Islamabad yesterday on a week’s visit to strengthen ties. The delegation will obtain first-hand information about latest developments and hold meetings with officials.
