Vegetable imports drop

DOHA: Qatar imported 19,752 tonnes of vegetables last month, showing a decrease compared to April (22,240 tonnes), according to data released by the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Business and Trade.

India topped the source countries, with 44 percent of the imports, followed by Jordan (18 percent).

Other major source countries included Pakistan (9 per cent), Saudi Arabia (8 percent), Egypt (6 percent), China and Iran (each 3 percent), Oman (2 percent) and Australia (1 percent).

Local products accounted for six percent of the total supply. Onion, potato and tomato constituted the major share of imports.
