DOHA: Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) is working to attract foreign expertise aiming at promoting local talent through knowledge-sharing as part of efforts to transform the energy-rich economy into a knowledge-based society, said a top official of the Doha-based onshore business and financial organisation.

Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer of QFC, in his address at an event held to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, highlighted the key role played by the QFC in Qatar’s economic growth and development.
Al Jaida said: “Qatar has the necessary means, resources and talent, and today more than ever, the opportunity to lead by example. And this is exactly what the QFC is doing. We are attracting international expertise, promoting knowledge-sharing, enabling local firms to expand regionally, contributing to our nation’s economy, and investing in our youth.” He added: “During Ramadan, we are reminded of the importance of working together for the betterment of our people and not just our economy.”
The event, organised by QFC, was attended by more than 450 guests from the local business community, media and other dignitaries during its annual networking Suhoor, held in the Ramadan Tent of the St Regis Doha Hotel.
During the evening, guests were also given an exclusive insight into the QFC’s collaboration with the Audio Education Complex, a leading educational school that specialises in teaching the hearing impaired. As part of this initiative, a group of QFC employees took a one-week sign language course and an internship programme was especially developed for the hearing-impaired. The QFC also announced that in collaboration with the Qatar Business and Finance Academy, it is initiating business courses tailored to the hearing-impaired.
Additionally, and in a first for the QFC, a silent auction of the work of Mayssa Al Saadi and Aida Al Mulla was held with proceeds going to the hearing-impaired artists themselves.
Commenting on this new CSR initiative, Yousef Fakhroo, Chief Marketing and Corporate Communications Officer said: “At the QFC, we value the people of Qatar and strongly believe in giving back to society. This is why year after year, we dedicate time and effort to raise awareness on specific causes that will benefit the wider community.
I take pride in knowing that we are playing a role in equipping young adults with a hearing disorder with the necessary tools to grow in the business and finance sector, and give them the opportunity in turn to give back to society.”
On the first day of Ramadan, the QFC launched its latest campaign featuring the region’s youngest sign-language interpreter Njoud Al Kubaisi and father, Mohammed Al Kubaisi. The campaign has since gone viral, amassing over 620,000 views. The Peninsula
