Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has started conducting several first aid training courses and the first such course was conducted yesterday.

People attending these courses will be trained to provide assistance to the sick and injured victims of various incidents.

It will also familiarise people and volunteers  with modern and up-to-date methods of first aid to help those affected, introducing the principles of QRC and the International Federation, instill a sense of teamwork in the volunteers and to provide initial response to help mitigate the impact of emergency situations as much as possible.

Dr Dawoud Al Bast, Director of Services and National Development at QRC, said: “First aid training courses offered by QRC are based on international standards and in line with the national standards. “They use the latest training programmes and scientific advances in this area which are approved by the European Society for Cardiology, the American Society for Cardiology and the International Federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross.”

“Qatar Red Crescent appeals to all government and private institutions and educational institutions in various categories to activate the role of first aid in the community through their participation in these courses,” Al Bast said.

QRC offers these courses to government bodies and private sector in addition to universities and schools.

A certificate is issued to successful trainees after passing a theoretical and practical examination to provide first which is renewed within two years.
