Doha: Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), hosted the annual Doha Counsellors Day, in partnership with the universities at Education City and the Academic Bridge Programme.
Held at the HBKU Student Center, Doha Counsellors Day 2012 attracted over 80 counsellors from independent and private schools across Qatar. The programme is designed to equip high school counsellors with critical information regarding the universities, admissions procedures and college counselling.
The programme opened with a welcome note from Dr Khalid Al Khanji, Vice President of Student Affairs at HBKU. In his address, Dr Al Khanji, who earned an MA in Counselling and Human Resource Development from the University of Colorado at Denver and a PhD in Counselling Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, stressed the importance of school counselling and the responsibility of the counsellors in directing youth to making the right career choices.
The welcome note was followed by a presentation about Hamad bin Khalifa University and the universities, beginning with Hamad bin Khalifa University’s mission and goals before introducing the universities, the programmes offered, and the various testing services offered at the HBKU Testing Center.
Representatives from the universities held an admissions panel, addressing the overall admissions procedures and policies and their approach to evaluation, giving the counsellors important insight.
As part of the annual admissions recruiting campaign, Doha Counsellors Day 2012 was held in advance of the Discover Education City (DEC) event, where high school students, parents and school administrators will be able to gain further insight into higher education opportunities that are available in Education City.
