Ministry announces new rules for winter camping

DOHA: The Ministry of Environment has announced new rules for winter camping, warning that licences would be cancelled if owners were found renting out camping spaces to others.

Applicants should not be less than 21, must protect the environment and not destroy the greenery around camps. The use of loudspeakers has been banned and campers must not disturb neighbouring camps by carrying out unnecessary activities.

The camping season begins on October 10 and runs until April 17, 2014. Registration for spaces began on September 25 and continues until December 3, Engineer Ahmed Al Saada, Acting Assistant Undersecretary at the ministry told a press conference on Wednesday.

People can submit requests for licences by logging on to the ministry’s website www.moe.gov.qa or visit the nearest department concerned of the ministry. Departments are in Doha, Umm Salal, Al Rayyan and Al Shamal, open from 8am to 2noon and 5pm to 7pm, according to Al Sharq.

Camping spaces have been allotted in Semaisima, Ras Al Nuwaf, Ras Matbakh, Al Dakhira, Al Marona, Fuwairit, Al Ghariya, Al Mafir, Ishairij, Umm Al Ma, Al Mazrouh, Umm Al Afai, Al Hashi, Rawdat Aisha (east and west), Rawdat Rashid, Zikrit, Baruq, Al Sariya, Al Kharaij, Salwa, Sealine, Al Udaid, Al Naqyan, Al Kharara, Al Mayada, Al Zabara and Al Ghashamiya.

Applicants can pay security money through Visa or Master cards and they will be notified about approval via SMS if their requests meet the criteria.
