DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) raised about QR11m from a charitable auction held yesterday at the Amphitheatre of Katara Cultural Village as part of the Support Gaza campaign, which it launched more than two months ago.
The money, a part of which will be given to sponsors, will support QRC efforts to reconstruct Gaza, which suffered heavy Israeli bombing of residential buildings, schools, mosques, hospitals, Gaza’s only power plant, and even ambulances, leaving behind a tragic toll of casualties and losses and affecting every aspect of the local community’s life.
Organised by QRC, the event was sponsored by Qatar TV and Al Rayyan Satellite Channel and supported by Alfardan Group, Jaidah Group, and Al Wajba Establishment, which donated the auction items as a contribution to the cause.
The auction was a part of the humanitarian campaign launched by QRC more than two months ago to support people in Gaza affected by the Israeli offensive.
Following the end of the war, the Support Gaza campaign shifted its focus from relief to reconstruction. The QRC office in Gaza initiated reconstruction work and resumed work on pre-war projects. It surveyed the damage suffered by some completed projects, particularly in the healthcare, education and water and sanitation sectors, to carry out repairs and rehabilitation.
