Doha: The Ministry of Culture, represented by the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, launched yesterday the ‘Let’s Read Together’ initiative, in cooperation with the ‘Read and Rise Club’, in the premises of the Ministry.
The initiative follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum and the Read and Rise Club, which requires encouraging discussion of the publications of Qatari publishing houses and supporting the establishment of reading clubs in universities.
The Let’s Read Together initiative aims to encourage community partnership to activate the cultural movement within the community, consolidate the relationship between the various cultural bodies and centres, encourage reading, and introduce books through programmes and activities.
In a statement, the Ministry of Culture said that the initiative will include a set of various programmes and events, including “A Library in Each Cafe” programme. Its idea revolves around the contribution of readers to providing different coffeeshops in the country with a number of books, and thus there will be community participation in spreading the culture of reading.
The Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum will contribute to distributing the publications of Qatari publishing houses, in addition to a programme that contributes to promoting reading among university students. This will be done through holding reading sessions for selected publications from various Qatari publishing houses.
