Washington: Apple has unveiled a new set of child protection features on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, with the release of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, providing parents with greater control over the apps, games, and websites their children can access. According to a report published by PhoneArena, Apple released a video on its official YouTube channel showcasing the new safety features, along with an explanation of how to create a child's account and select age-appropriate protection settings, with the possibility of adjusting the restrictions later
The new features include the "Ask to Browse" function, which allows parents to approve or deny their children's access to specific websites via the Safari browser, along with "Ask to Buy," which requires parental approval before downloading apps or making in-app purchases.
Apple has also enhanced the capabilities of the "Communication Safety" feature and provided new tools to control device usage time, including "Time Allowances" and "Schedules," enabling parents to set the duration of app, game, and device use, as well as to establish usage schedules.
The new child protection features are available on devices running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, coming at a time when government efforts are increasing in several countries around the world to impose greater restrictions on the use of social media by children and adolescents, and to provide parents with more precise tools to control the digital content that reaches children.
