Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has honoured 38 imams and preachers for their active participation in the first series of its “Ambassadors of Waqf” awareness seminars, aimed at promoting a culture of sustainable giving and highlighting the role of endowments in community development.
The recognition acknowledges their contributions to raising public awareness of waqf (Islamic endowments) and strengthening its presence in society through sermons, religious lessons and other forms of community engagement.
The first series of seminars benefited nearly 200 imams and preachers and was organised by the General Directorate of Endowments in cooperation with the Department of Mosques. The programme was conducted through virtual communication platforms to familiarise participants with endowment projects, their various fields.
The directorate said imams and preachers play a key role in spreading awareness of waqf because of the trust they enjoy within society and their ability to reach diverse sections of the public regularly through Friday sermons, lessons and religious guidance. The “Ambassadors of Waqf” initiative was designed to equip religious leaders with knowledge about endowment projects and their beneficiaries, helping them communicate the importance of sustainable charitable giving and translate awareness into meaningful community action.
Speaking at the recognition ceremony, Mohammed Saleh Al Badr, Head of the Studies Section at the General Directorate of Endowments, said nearly 200 imams and preachers had benefited from the first series, reflecting the programme’s reach and the interest generated by its educational topics.
Al Badr praised the role of imams and preachers in communicating the message of waqf and explaining its various fields of application. He also commended the cooperation of the Department of Mosques and the supporting entities that contributed to the programme’s success.
At the end of the ceremony, Jassim Hassan Bu Hazza, Director of the Department of Waqf Funds at the General Directorate of Endowments, presented the honours to the 38 imams and preachers.
