DUBAI: A Bahraini policeman has died from severe burns after a “terrorist” attack in April in a Shia village close to Manama, the authorities said yesterday.
The policeman “succumbed to his injuries” on Thursday after being “sent abroad to receive treatment for his burns,” the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) said.
On October 19, a 19-year-old policeman also died from injuries sustained when a home-made bomb exploded during clashes with protesters in the Shia village of Akar. Regular unrest and demonstrations have shaken Bahrain since it crushed Shia-led popular protests in March last year.
According to the International Federation for Human Rights, a total of 80 people have been killed in Bahrain since the violence began on February 14, 2011. More than 1,500 policemen have also been wounded in Bahrain, the IAA said yesterday.
