Japanese’ body found in waters off Pangasinan

MANILA: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday said that combined maritime personnel have recovered the body of a Japanese national who was swept by big waves in the shorelines of San Fabian, Pangasinan on Wednesday afternoon.

The PCG said the body of the victim identified as Hirofumi Nimura, 39 was found in waters off San Fabian on Thursday morning. Nimura is married to a Filipina named Genyalyn, a resident of Nibaliw West in the same town. The PCG said that according to the accounts of a certain Robert Ulep, Nimura was along the shoreline of San Fabian when he was hit and swept by big waves. 

The incident happened at around 5pm last Wednesday.

Cops gun down guard’s killers

MANILA: A motorcycle-riding gunman shot dead an Army reservist in Pasig City yesterday morning.

Senior Superintendent Mario Rariza, Pasig City police chief, said that the gunman and his cohort were later shot dead by responding policemen from Pasig and Taytay City.

Rariza identified the slain suspects as Abdulkadir Dipatuan and Mohalidin Sli Ebrahim. Initial police reports said Army reservist and security guard Ignacio Mejia was shot dead by the suspects along C6 Road in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 9:40am. 

Police on full alert for poll

MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday that it will remain on full alert status until after the completion of election security operations on October 30. The PNP raised the full alert status on Friday.

Under a full alert status all unit commanders are ordered to secure all PNP camps and offices, vital installations, economic key points and places of convergence of people, and perform election duties.

PNP units are also to maximise the effective strength of police personnel for election duty, and the cancellation of leaves of absence with all personnel required to report to their duty stations.
