Karate: Qatar’s Osama wins gold; Saudi Arabia top

The two-day championship ended yesterday. Saudi Arabia topped, followed by Jordan and Iran. Around 170 players from 17 countries took part in the championship. Players from French, Italy, Hungary, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Oman, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, besides hosts Qatar took part. Doha: Qatar’s Alraji Osama clinched gold in the -70kg in the Cadet Kumite Individual category at the Second International Karate Championship at Al Gharafa Club here yesterday.

In the two-day championship organised by Qatar Karate Federation, the host team finished in the sixth place with one gold and one bronze.

The bronze medal came through the efforts of Ibrahim Abdurehman in the Individual -68kg in Kumite for Seniors.

Two clubs, Brazan Youth Center Qatar and Karate Academy Qatar,  taking part in the championship open for clubs and   countries, bagged one bronze medal each.

Saudi Arabia national team topped with a tally of three golds and an equal number of silver and bronze. Jordan national team finished with two gold, silver and bronze medals.

Gharaman Karate Team Iran finished third in which around 170 players from 17 countries took part. THE PENINSULA
