Doha: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani opened yesterday two-day meetings of the General Assembly of International Handball Federation (IHF).
The opening session was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, Sheikh Ahmed Fahd Al Ahmed Al Sabah, President of Association of National Olympic Committees, who is also Chairman of Asian Olympic Council and Chairman of Asian Handball Federation (AHF), Secretary Genera of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of IHF, Dr Hassan Mustafa, President of Qatar Handball Federation, Ahmad Mohammad Al Shaabi, IHF members and representatives of IHF member federations from the five continents.
The Premier welcomed the guests, wishing them a pleasant stay in Qatar.
“I am pleased to be with you in this world sports gathering which brings together top administrative and technical leaders of handball from all over the world. I would also like to convey to all of you greetings of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wishes to you of success.
“The government and people of Qatar welcome you all and wish the meetings success in achieving their goals and objectives. “I seize this opportunity to invite all of you to attend the World Men’s Handball Championship in Doha in 2015.”
Meanwhile, Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahd Al Ahmad Al Sabah, President of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), asserted Qatar’s ability to ensure full success in the 2015 World Handball Cup for men in view of the huge attention and due care the sport is witnessing in Qatar, especially under Sheikh Joaa bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the higher organising committee of the 2015 World Handball Cup.
He considered the synchronisation of the meetings of IHF General Assembly with Doha hosting the World Cup 2015 as an opportunity to see how Qatar is interested in handball in particular, and sport in general. QNA
